More Chalk it Now

Time for another card from the Chalk it Now paper pad!

This card was inspired by the following sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches:

I started with a black card base in my fav 110lb cardstock.  I cut a piece of the 6x6 design paper down to make the back piece then used a portion of the leftover piece to make the strip and flipped the paper over so the green design on the back would be showing.  For the sentiment I used Stampin' Up's Life is Grand to stamp "Make a wish."  I love the multi-tonal look of the stamp that gives it a chalky grey look.  I used a 2" punch to cut out the leaf design from one of the design papers then punched leaves from Stampin' Up's Foliage Framelits using the back design of the same paper.  I finished the front by adding a little Wink of Stella and a paper rose.

For the inside I put a piece of white cardstock and stamped an additional sentiment from the same set.
That finishes off another card from the Chalk it Now group.  The paper pad makes 3 of these!  You can check out my previous card design from this pad here.

May All Your Wishes Come True!

Wishing for Playtime!

To think that I thought life would slow down when school got out!  😂   After a week of acting camp last week I was ready for a break...so I started my summer job!  Ok, so maybe that wasn't much of a break, but I do get to love on dogs while I'm there!  Tomorrow might have to be a morning of play to make up for having to work the rest of the day and through Sat...

But today...

I was super excited to find out that Donna chose my card in the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.  Be sure to check out the feminine cards in that challenge as well as their new masculine one.  This is my card from my One Sheet Wonder Set that was chosen.

I'm still a sucker for the watercolor flowers on this paper and the beaded paper flowers!  Check out my template for how to use a double-sided sheet of paper to make 5 cards.  Even though I've been working at my summer job and doing a few school meetings I do have a card to share today.  One is better than none, right?
May All Your Wishes Come True Card

This one uses some springy paper from the Kathy Davis - Happiness Paper Pad.  I love flowers in general.  My Mom has had a beautiful flower garden for as long as I can remember and while this paper may not have my irises, they are still super cute!  I love the color scheme she uses for this paper pad and have several more cards mapped out.  (Have I mentioned I have way too many things I want to make?!?)  Check out these cute papers:

Kathy Davis - Happiness Paper Pad

I started with a piece of my Recollections Storm Clouds 110lb paper as my card base.  I chose some complimentary paper from the paper pad and matted with purple cardstock.  I stamped my sentiment from Stampin' Up's - Heard from the Heart stamp set.  I love the swirled handwriting look of "Wishes" on the stamp.

My layout was based upon OWH sketch #37.

My husband has a frog friend in our backyard that seems to almost hang out with him, so I finished off with some embellishments from Jolee's including a super cute dimensional frog sticker and dragonfly.  I used a little clear Wink of Stella to add a little shimmer and some green Jolee's gems for the final touch.
A little shimmer and some froggy fun!

I made a couple of cards from the same layout but used a couple different frogs.

Now if the rain would just stop long enough for me to play in the flowers a little bit...although that might interfere with my excuse to be inside making cards!  Hope you have a bright, shiny day!

Another Double-Sided One Sheet Wonder

More Watercolor Blooms

I had so much fun with my last one sheet wonder using double-sided paper that I just had to do another one.  Some people are addicted to food and such...I'm apparently addicted to paper crafting!  😂

I started with Pink Blossoms, a double-sided paper from Recollections.  I decided that I would 'wing it' instead of mapping out how I was using the paper.  I only cringed a little when I made the first cut.  😄

I started with an idea that I found on Pinterest, where someone had taken a double-sided design paper and folded it back to show the other side.  I decided not to fold mine and sort of rolled it over instead so it had some height to it.  I love some dimension on cards.  Next I took some fabric and paper flowers and used it as a soft of tack at the corner of the paper.  I love these small paper flowers in the shape of roses.  I think the multi-shade fabric flower matches the fade of the watercolor look nicely and as you know, I love my bling so a beaded center is always awesome.  I used a sentiment from Well Said and added some gems on the flowers and to draw attention to the sentiment.

One Sheet Wonder, Card #1 - Birthday Wishes

For Card #2 I started with a shimmer cardstock, Pink Taffeta, and cut out the front and back panel.  I used the back side of Pink Blossoms for the watercolor background and the floral for the front panel.  I once again used my new Stampin' Up set Well Said and stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black on the pink shimmer and added a second tag in the lavender.  I finished off with a piece of Rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon and complimented the design with the same pack of paper and fabric flowers that I used for card #1.

One Sheet Wonder, Card #2 - Heartfelt Thanks

Card #3 starts with a lavender card base from Recollections and matted pieces of both the front blossoms and the back watercolor as a background.  A piece of the shimmer pink has been cut into a tag and topped with a sweet "Thank You" foil sticker sentiment from Recollections and the Rich Razzleberry ribbon again.  Flowers and gems finish the card.

One Sheet Wonder, Card #3 - Thank You Tag

Card #4 shakes up my color scheme a little.  I started with a card base and covered most of the front with the watercolor side of the design paper.  I cut one of the remaining pieces into strips and separated the strips with Crushed Curry ribbon.  I used my Crushed Curry ink pad to cover a piece of white cardstock punched into a 2" circle to make the background for the "Thank You" sentiment.  Rose paper flowers finish the card.

One Sheet Wonder, Card #4 - Thank You Circle Sentiment

The final card, card #5 puts to use the last few pieces of paper.  Strips of the design paper and cardstock make a staggered design leading to another thank you sentiment and rose paper flowers.

One Sheet Wonder, Card #5 - Thank You

That finishes off another one sheet wonder!  I've got so many cards I want to make next, it's hard to decided what to do first!

Please check out these challenges where I have entered One Sheet Wonder, Card #2 - Heartfelt Thanks:

Starting another 6x6 Paper Pad Challenge

Hello, Sunshine!

What a beautiful day it was today!  It was so wonderful to have some sunshine and a break from the rain.

Today I broke out a 6x6 paper pad to start another paper pad challenge.  I found this fun paper pad by K&Company called Chalk It Now.  It has super fun colors and I love the black backgrounds; they can produce such a neat look.

I chose the blue floral sheet with the polka dots on the back to use for Sunday Stamps' current sketch challenge.  Be sure to check out their post, they have some beautiful examples.  Here is the starting sketch they are using:

I came up with my own measurements based upon the sketch.  I started with two sheets of cardstock from Recollections - one from Paper Flowers and the other from their Earth pack.  I used these sheets to create a double mat as the backing for the front of the card.  Next I attached a piece of the Chalk It Now paper with the lovely blue flowers.  For the vertical piece I cut the same type of paper, but used the blue polka dot side.

For the sentiment I chose the Foliage Framelits and Floral Frames stamps from Stampin' Up.  I liked how their flowers mimicked those of the paper.  I used the Foliage Framelits to cut the frame from another piece of cardstock from the Earth collection and then cut the differing leaf pieces from Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip.  Next I stamped the flowers in Memento Tuxedo Black using Floral Frames and cut them using the matching dies from the Foliage Framelits.  I used my water brush to paint the flowers with Coastal Cabana and Pool Party to give the flowers a watercolor look.   Finally, I inked the sentiment with a mix of those inks to create a multi-tonal look, and punched the sentiment out with a 2" circle punch.

I added some crumb cake thread and swirled it through the leaves and made a few leaf definitions with a gold Wink of Stella.  Since I love my sparkle, I added some varying blue gems from Jolee's All that Bling as centers of the flowers.  I popped the flowers up with some foam dots to give it even more dimension.

I had such a great time mixing the different products together.  I've already got thoughts brewing of how I'll combine the paper pack with a few other items I've been wanting to use.  Well, that finishes off my first card design from the pack.

Happy Father's Day!

Time for a Masculine Card!

I am truly blessed to have an amazing father.  Words really can't express how thankful I am to have such an amazing Dad.  We had an early Father's Day with the fam a week ago and my husband showed off his cooking prowess.  Today we'll do Father's Day #2 with our 'adopted' grandfather.

Saturday, though, was a trip to Indy.  Now that school's out, I took a day to hang with my sister and try to get her corrupted and started with card making.  This, of course, included a shopping trip to pick up "needed" supplies.  😂 After getting her rolling, I got started on a Father's Day Card.

Happy Father's Day Card

I dug out one of my 4x6 Paper Mat Packs from Hobby Lobby to make it.  I found this awesome pack on clearance and knew it would be perfect for making a few masculine cards.

I love the designs in this pack.  I'm a huge fan of mixing in designs with things such as wood texture, and this pack had some interesting patterns that I had not seen before including a drawer design and some stitched fabric.  I chose a few sheets that had a lot of texture including a basket-like one, a stitched background and a fun geometric design.  I started with this sketch from Sketch Saturday.

I pulled out my fav cardstock for bases, 110 lb and chose a few sheets from the Recollections Storm Clouds pack.  I used three different sheets of cardstock as either the card base or for matting.  A while back I found this fun pack of gears at a Jo-ann's that was having a liquidation sale.  (Love shopping sales!)   I've been dying to use them so I added in a few of these gears from the Steampunk Multi Gear pack.

To finish things off I pulled out a new stamp set I purchased last month at my stamp club meeting.  I was super excited to get the Well Said stamp set from Stampin' Up.  I was wishing I had grabbed the matching framelits and my Cuttlebug before I left for my sister's, but I was trying to pack light so I only had the stamp set on hand.  I used  Memento London Fog to stamp "Happy Father's Day" on the outside and to put "The best thing about today is you" on the inside.

That finished things off!  I can't wait to tear into this paper pad some more and make more cards this week.  I still have the Mechanics 3-D Texture Fade folder from Tim Holtz that I have been waiting to try and I think I will use some of this paper pack and give it a whirl sometime this week.

I hope all Fathers have an amazing, blessed Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day Card

One Sheet Wonder and Another Year Down!

Time to Play!

One Sheet Wonder - 5 cards

Today I wrapped up my 19th year of teaching.  It was a good year, but I've been truly exhausted these last couple of weeks.  It's hard to know that summer will be rough for some of these kids and I'm torn with that knowledge and the reality that I need this time to rejuvenate and plan for next year's adventures.

On a lighter note...I saw this beautiful paper at Michael's the other day and I knew I wanted to use it for another One Sheet Wonder.  It's called Teal Blooms and is a double-sided design paper from Recollections.

I love the watercolor type look of the flowers!  I started by mapping out how I would use the paper.  (Geek alert!)

After I mapped things out I cut out the pieces and began to assemble.  I chose 3 sheets of cardstock to go with the paper:  Martha Stewart Galax (8 1/2 x 11), Aquarium (8 1/2 x 11) and Moss (12 x 12).  For card #1, I triple matted the floral sheet and then triple matted on one side of the blue side of the design paper.  Next, I layered the matted blue piece on top of the matted floral.  I used a 2" circle punch to make a quick sentiment with some Recollection "Thank You" Sticker Tags and popped it up with pop dots.  I finished off with a paper flower and butterfly embellishment, also from Recollections.

Card #1 - One Sheet Wonder

For Card #2 I used the same basic layout as card #1, only I flipped the side of the sentiment.

Card #2 - One Sheet Wonder

Card #3 begins with the same layout as #2.  I love these paper flowers with the beaded centers.  SO pretty!  I put three different ones on to finish card #3.

Card #3 - One Sheet Wonder

To shake things up, I changed the card direction for cards #4 and #5.  Here's card #4:

Card #4 - One Sheet Wonder

And finally, card #5:
Card #5 - One Sheet Wonder

I saved some strips from the paper to use as inserts for the cards.  Here are a couple of examples of how I used them:

So that's it!  One sheet of design paper, 3 sheets of cardstock, 5 card bases and a few stickers and my One Sheet Wonder is complete!

Please check out these challenges!

Craft Show Fun

Decided it was time to clear out some of my cards so I participated in a couple of craft shows with my dear friend,  Karen.  She makes awes...
